“This project has brought history to life and has fired up the children’s imaginations.  It was very rewarding to see the children view older people in a new light – not just as ‘older’ people – but as people that had contributed significantly.”  Teacher

“Our students were helped greatly by the involvement of the volunteers who all brought differing skills to the project.
The project
not only delivered the expected outcomes, but exceeded them.”  Teacher

As a charity dedicated to providing and supporting educational projects with an emphasis on equal opportunities for all, we have built up a great deal of experience in working with primary, secondary and special schools to enrich the curriculum in innovative and inspiring ways.

All our programmes aim to stimulate community involvement and increase participants’ skills, awareness and confidence.  Many of our projects are intergenerational oral history projects that provide opportunities for students to talk directly to people from the community and to work collaboratively which is powerful in terms of speaking and listening skills.  We find that students are particularly engaged during these visits and gain respect for others through increased knowledge of their lives.

Our projects offer plenty of scope for creativity through drama, filming, creative writing, music, photography and art and we provide valuable expertise, experience, resources and on-going support for the duration of the project.  There are also opportunities for cross-curricular working;  we find that when students become totally absorbed in a topic, and are exposed to new experiences and resources, it opens up different avenues of learning and often results in deeper thinking and increased levels of engagement across the curriculum.   To see how a project can incorporated into the curriculum, please click here to view an example lesson plan.

As most of our projects are funded by charitable grants, there is little or no financial cost to the school.
